Safe Preparation for an Abstinence Based Treatment Environment

By attending inpatient treatment at Renascent, you have chosen an evidence-informed approach, using an abstinence-based model.

In preparation for being in an abstinence based treatment environment and to support your safety we ask that you refrain from using alcohol, cocaine, cannabis (and all related cannabis products, including medical prescriptions), MDMA, and methamphetamine at least 72 hours before your admission. If opioids or benzodiazepines are one of your problem substances we ask that you refrain from using them for 8 days before your admission.

Withdrawal from many substances can be dangerous for your health. If you have been using any substance everyday or are concerned about your ability to discontinue using safely please speak to your health care provider, or a Renascent counsellor to help develop a safe withdrawal plan.

Any vitamins or supplements that you bring with you to treatment need to be unopened in their original packaging.

You may be asked to provide a urine screen at the time of your admission

If you have been prescribed medications for withdrawal, please inform Renascent before your admission.

Medications with Addictive Potential

If you are prescribed or using any of the categories of medications listed on the following page it is important that you tell the Renascent Counsellor completing your assessment. The Renascent Access Centre and Medical Director will work with you to develop a treatment plan which will allow you to realize your treatment and recovery goals. This plan may involve a pre-admission appointment with the Renascent Medical Director and/or collaboration with your Family Doctor, addiction medicine service and/or specialist. A client admitting to treatment while taking one of these medications without an agreed upon treatment plan may have their admission rescheduled to allow for this to occur.

However, approval from your health care provider alone does not guarantee your treatment plan will not include changes to your medication.
