Remember, alcohol is not needed to have fun. You can stay strong and abstain from drinking on New Year's Eve by having a solid game plan, reminding yourself of why you stopped drinking, relying on AA meetings and your sponsor, and surrounding yourself with people who won't be drinking on New Year's Eve.
Being restored to sanity during the holiday season boils down to one thing – giving of yourself and to others. If you go into situations wanting, you're likely to come out wanting. But if you make it your goal to be of service to your family in whatever way you can, then your holiday will be a success no matter how anyone else behaves.
What does the Big Book mean when it tells us He will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves? Be assured that God is not here primarily to take care of us and our desires. He is here to give us the tools and the power to do His work, not ours. The will of God is infinitely more satisfying than anything we could plan for ourselves. If you are not so sure about this, stick around until you are. You will be amazed before you are halfway through.

The good news is that children of alcoholics can and do recover. Treatment programs and community based organizations can use specially designed games and activities to help children play their way to health and understanding. During this process they build upon their strengths, deepen their resilience, and further realize their intrinsic beauty and worth.
