Supporting Teens Affected by a Loved One’s Addiction

At Renascent, we recognize addiction as a family disease. Our Youth Healthy Coping Skills Program (Teen Program) is designed for teens aged 13–18 who are impacted by a loved one’s addiction. This program helps teens develop resilience, improve emotional well-being, and build healthier relationships.

Building on the foundation of our Children’s Healthy Coping Skills Program, this initiative provides a tailored approach for transitional-aged youth, offering structured support in a safe and understanding environment.

Program Components

The Teen Program offers both structured and flexible support to meet the needs of this age group, helping them navigate the challenges of addiction in their families.

  • Guided Sessions: Participants attend 12 online group sessions per year, where they learn healthy coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and tools to navigate their feelings.
  • Drop-In Support: Since challenges don’t follow a schedule, teens can access up to six drop-in sessions, where they can seek support, share experiences, and connect with facilitators and peers who understand their struggles.
  • One-on-One Support: Personalized support is available through in-person sessions, text messaging, phone calls, or virtual platforms like Zoom, providing teens with additional guidance to manage stress, anxiety, and emotions.
  • Alumni Support: Ongoing connection and mentorship help past participants stay engaged, fostering long-term emotional well-being and resilience.

Why Renascent’s Teen Program Matters

Early intervention is key. Our Teen Program provides a safe, supportive space where young people can develop the skills and confidence they need to navigate life’s challenges.

Teens affected by a loved one’s addiction are at greater risk of experiencing anxiety, depression, and behavioral challenges. In Canada:

  • 36% of youth report high levels of stress, highlighting the need for accessible mental health support.
  • 12% of youth aged 12–19 report experiencing depression, with higher rates among those impacted by family addiction (Statistics Canada).
