Renascent Laughs Raises a Record-Breaking $30,000 for Addiction Treatment

Third annual fundraising comedy event has guests howling with laughter during a memorable evening

TORONTO, Ont. (May 5, 2022) – Guests laughed the evening away in support of addiction treatment for people in need at the third annual Renascent Laughs: Laugh Together, Recover Together. This year more than 172 households attended the night of comedy, which was held on March 30, 2022 and raised a record-braking $30,000.

Comedians Jean Paul, Courtney Gilmour, and Chuck Byrn delivered outstanding performances and enthralled guests. Renascent Addictions Counsellor and Registered Psychotherapist, Cynthia Langill emceed the evening for the third straight year.

“Renascent is grateful for the tremendous support this event receives year after year. The generosity of our champions and supporters goes a long way to ensure that cost is not a barrier for many who require life-saving addiction treatment,” said Laura Bhoi, CEO, Renascent. “The past few years have been incredibly difficult or us all, but it has especially challenging for people who struggle with mental health issues and substance use disorders. Being able to get together – even virtually – and laugh in support of helping those who desperately need it goes a long way to fostering healing and recovery.”

The comedy event also included a buzzing online auction, which offered participants the opportunity to bid on a range of items and experiences. Over ten days, guests and members of the public were able to participate in bidding on jewelry, collectables, vacations, and more. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist, producer, composer and arranger, Nile Rodgers donated one of his guitars to be auctioned at the event.

Funds raised at Renascent Laughs are used to support programs and services Renascent delivers to individuals who require addiction recovery and their families.
