Humility says, "Who should I ask?" Arrogance says, "Who must I tell?" Humility chooses to listen. Arrogance always rushes to speak. Humility says, "I'm not unique. Others have gone before me and I can learn from their perspective." Arrogance says, "I'm so unique, you cannot possibly understand me."
The idea is similar to weeding your garden. You have valuable and desired character traits that you would like to see flourish, but they cannot as long as you have character defects preventing their growth. A garden cannot weed itself, so you're going to need the help of others to identify your character defects and you'll need God's help to remove them, taproot and all.

The whole point of the 12 step program is to get at the root causes of your drinking or addiction problem. Without doing this you won't achieve long term success. This is why you should stop taking others inventories and start taking a hard look at your character traits, feelings and beliefs.
