Renascent alumni, Tim C. secures a $5,000 donation for Renascent Foundation through The Tenaquip Foundation
This past holiday season, marked a profound milestone for Tim C.: 10 years of recovery from alcohol addiction. Grateful for the impact Renascent had on his life and recovery, Tim applied for and secured a $5,000 donation to Renascent Foundation. The donation came from the The Tenaquip Foundation, a charitable organization that supports the missions of other registered charities in Canada and abroad.
“I thought my 10-year milestone was the perfect time to give back, so I recommended Renascent as a recipient for the donation,” shares Tim, who began his journey to recovery at Renascent’s Paul J. Sullivan Centre (Sullivan Centre) in December 2014.
“I am so grateful for what the team at Sullivan did for me in starting me on my road to recovery. I don’t know where I’d be without having gone through the three weeks in Brooklin and then the after-care program,” said Tim, whose journey to recovery was not an easy one.
After struggling with addiction for years and making numerous unsuccessful attempts to quit on his own, Tim sought professional help. After receiving initial support from another organization, he made the life-changing decision to walk through Renascent’s doors.
“I can’t say I enjoyed treatment—I had a hard time with it,” admits Tim, who felt like leaving after his first day. However, his wife encouraged him to stay, and he persevered. During his time at Renascent, he found something he never expected: hope for long-term recovery.
After completing treatment, Tim attended some aftercare programs and meetings intermittently. However, his recovery truly gained momentum when a Renascent counsellor suggested he attend the in-person aftercare program that had recently started at Sullivan Centre.
“Those meetings became my anchor,” says Tim.
Tim’s connection to Renascent has remained strong over the years, and his gratitude has grown deeper with time. While in treatment, he connected deeply with two Renascent staff who were addiction counsellors at Sullivan Centre at the time. They encouraged him along his journey.
“I’m now part of a homegroup that Renascent clients visit every Sunday. That meeting is a constant reminder of how my recovery started. Each week, I get to see where I came from and it’s incredibly grounding.”
Tim’s story is a testament to the transformative power of recovery and the profound impact of paying it forward. His generosity and The Tenaquip Foundation’s support, play a role in helping Renascent be a beacon of hope for those on their own recovery journeys.
“What’s most gratifying is the overwhelming gratitude I’ve received in return,” says Tim. “I sent the email to Glen about the donation, and I got four heartfelt thank-you emails back from Renascent. It hit me all at once—this incredible wave of gratitude, like a pulling feeling across my chest. Yes, I helped Renascent through my company, but honestly, I feel like I got the better of that deal—absolutely!”
