That’s why our gender-specific and gender-responsive care creates a compassionate, inclusive, and safe space where every person can heal and thrive.
At Renascent, whether you identify as male, female, non-binary, or gender-diverse, our person-centred approach ensures your unique needs are met with respect and understanding.
Addiction is intertwined with societal pressures, personal traumas, and cultural expectations. Men, women, and gender-diverse individuals often experience distinct challenges while in active addiction and during the recovery process.
Our commitment to gender-responsive care goes beyond physical spaces. We are proudly LGBTQ2IA2S+ affirming, creating a physically, psychologically, and culturally safe environment for all. Our clinicians, many with lived experience of addiction and recovery, are trained to explore many modalities with clients such as trauma-based and neurodivergent-aligned therapies which ensures we are providing holistic care that respects each client’s identity and journey.
Renascent’s three inpatient centres provide 28–42-day programs rooted in 12-Step facilitation and evidence-based therapies, tailored to meet the needs of men, women, and gender-diverse individuals.
Each of our community-based centres offers a home-like atmosphere, fostering connection and healing.
Renascent Graham Munro Centre in Toronto is designed to meet the needs of women and those who self-identify as female, this centre offers a nurturing environment with female clinicians.
Renascent Paul J. Sullivan Centre in Brooklin is a serene, rural setting, while Renascent Madison Avenue Centre is in a vibrant, urban setting. Both centres are for men and those who self-identify as male, and clients attend group and individual counselling from men.
All three centres offer programming which includes cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, art therapy, and trauma-informed care, alongside nutritious meals tailored to dietary needs. They provide supportive spaces for daily group and individual counselling, fitness activities, and 12-Step work to build resilience and accountability. With holistic therapies, personalized treatment plans, and a focus on community, treatment is ideal for anyone seeking connection and purpose.

Elliot, a trans non-binary person, faced a complex struggle with addiction, compounded by the challenges of navigating their gender identity in an often unsupportive world.
“I was spending a lot of time navigating gender,” they explain, and was not yet open about their identity the first time they attended treatment at Renascent. “Being out was important to me. I didn’t know what to expect, but at Renascent I was open about being trans and everyone was super receptive.”
Still, “going into a single gender treatment centre was nerve wracking,” Elliot recalls. “At first, I didn’t understand the value of single gender treatment. But then I saw all of these displays of positive masculinity, of people saying ‘I love you’ and being vulnerable.
“Now I see why it is so valuable: I got to have a really wholesome experience where I was one of the guys. The staff were supportive in just the right way, where I didn’t feel singled out.”
Elliot,
